My PS3 Slim Issue

So, after having my PS3 Slim for about 15 days-I was in the middle of playing an intense game of Ultimate Alliance 2 when my the PS3's processor seemed to slow down.  I continued to play, of course-it picked back up and everything was back to normal again.  I proceeded to play for a couple more hours.

There was a point where the game was about to go into one of the movie cut scenes...my entire tv screen went green!  Now, that's the only time that the system actually did that, but on the XMB-when moving around the joystick-the movement would not register, it was stuck.  I'd expect every so often, possibly, there would be a second to a two second lag-but only every once in a while; this happened often from day 1 of the purchase until I returned it to Sony Style.

The good thing with the Sony Style store that I go to in the Comcast Center, is that I frequent the store so often that the assistant manager of the store (who also sold the Slim to me) just asked me how I was liking the Slim one day that I was just browsing to see what new games were in stock.  I told him that I got the green screen and that the XMB movements had been lagging and he went to Google to see if there were any related issues posted.  Of course, he didn't find any.  Nonetheless, he just told me to bring it back when I could and he'd take it as an exchange and just say it was defective.  I guess the same could have happened either way, being I also got the replacement plan on the system at purchase but I think there didn't need to be any actual "troubleshooting" done.

For my original PS3 40GB that I'd purchased from Best Buy, if I had an issue with the system, I'd have to take the system to Best Buy, leave it with the Geek Squad and they'd have to troubleshoot, experience the same problem and then replace the system...that's with the replacement plan-from what the representative explained to me.  That sucks, although, I NEVER had a problem with my 40GB PS3.

Friday, I took my PS3 Slim back to Sony Style and exchanged for a brand new system.  I did find out that the replacement plan isn't registered to a specific PS3 system but actually shows where the system was actually purchased and something about the inventory.  Hopefully, this system will not give me the system issues that I experienced with the first.

My PS3 Slim

Friday, I sold my 40GB PS3 system to one of my co-workers for $200.00-I know, what a friggin deal!  It was extremely hard to part ways with him but on the flip side; I purchased his baby sister, the PS3 Slim!  I've been so psyched about the two transactions all week and they finally took place.

I purchased my PS3 Slim directly from the Sony Style Store since it's located in the Comcast Center across the street from the job, rather than going to GameStop in the Gallery.  So, I thought because of the company that I work for, I'd be able to get the 10% discount they offer us on the console itself, going directly through Sony.  I was so wrong.

The price of the PS3 Slim was $299.99 as advertised and I also snagged the 2-year PS3 Service Plan for $49.99 (which replaces the console with new if anything goes wrong).  I really tried to push the 10% discount, okay, really I didn't.  I knew Sony wouldn't be discounting the pride and joy of the company.  Interestingly enough, the manager of the Sony Store I went too, advised me that Sony is actually only making $8.00 off of every PS3 Slim sold?!  I find that VERY hard to believe-but who am I to argue the point, but enough of all this debauchery, now the good stuff.

So the PS3 Slim out of box, comes equipped with:
     PS3 Slim Console:
          2 USB ports
          Eject BUTTON
          Power BUTTON
          LAN connector
          HDMI OUT connector
          AV MULTI OUT connector
          AC IN connector.
     AV Cable
     AC Power Cord
     USB Cable
     DUALSHOCK 3 wireless controller
     Quick Start Guide
     PS3 Welcome to... disk
     Instruction manuals

So, there aren't any additional USB Ports or Memory Card Reader Slots like the 80GB PS3 model.  I would have to say that the Slim is probably a 1/3 or almost 1/2 as small as the orignal model PS3 and probably 5 lbs lighter in weight too.  The 120GB after the reserve equates to 111GB, still, plenty of HDD.  The power supply cord isn't as bulky as the previous models either.  Something that I thought would be a given but isn't, is the backwards compatibility for PS2 games.  That's an epic fail, but nonetheless, I'll cope.  If you are a first time PS3 purchaser and have a HD capable tv, I'd highly recomend a HDMI connector cord from start.  A gold plated cord gives the best quality compared to the standard silver.

F.Y.I.: WET Street Date Change

So, I went out to GameStop today, on my lunch break from work, to pick up what I thought was going to be my copy of WET.  Well, I was wrong.  They have apparently moved the street date for this all new, innovative 3rd person shooter from September 8, 2009 to SEPTEMBER 15, 2009.

I downloaded the demo from the PSNetwork this past weekend.  The controls seem pretty simple along with the flow.  I can't really get too deep into it right now, being it was only the demo.  Although, the demo gives you gun action, sword action, acrobatics in slow motion, the "car hopping" and berserker action that will comprise the game.

This game was written by acclaimed writer, Duppy Demetrius, who is best known for his part in the series 24.  I'm really taken by the look and feel of the game.  With the main character being female, toting a pistol and a sword, the retro 70's music and scenes; this game really gave me a feeling of Quentin Tarantino's, Kill Bill Volumes.  Not to say it is or is not based from that, but nonetheless, very nice.

So, rather than wasting the trip to the Gallery during my lunch break; I went ahead and pre-ordered my copy.  I had my co-worker pick me up some food from Burger King while I handled my business in GameStop.

I can't wait for it to actually drop, this is one that I can see becoming a nice franchise-just based off the demo.  Once I own and have played through the story, all may change or it could remain the same or better.  We shall see-I'll follow up with my review for WET, soon.

PS3 System Update

Just an F.Y.I.: PS3 has a new update, Version 3.00. The major things in the new update includes:

The XMB has been redesigned
The "Information Bar" has been changed to "What's New"

But, it also includes some different things that fall under the "Video", "Network" and "Friends" categories. Overall, it's a new, fresh look for the Playstation 3! Download the Version 3.00 Update here.

Batman: Arkham Asylum

...ahem...
Batman. When I first heard that rocksteady and Eidos announced that they were going to make another Batman video game, I wondered why were they going to resurrect this venture from its grave once again. I'm sure I'm not the only person that wondered this very thing from past experiences with this video game franchise. Every Batman game that has been published prior to August 25, 2009 has been a major disappointment, actually, I think it's safe to say, garbage.
Well, Batman: Arkham Asylum. The graphics, the story, the background, the gadgets, the cut scenes, the Batman just put the franchise back on the map! Following an amazing movie, Dark Knight, this just put the icing on the Batman franchise. This game is very well put together and gives you that feeling of "I can't stop here".
I just finished the game a couple days ago-it took me about 8 days with 2-3 hours a day (except on weekends-possibly all day o_O) on normal setting; but I located all of the Riddler's clues. I'm still going to play through it a second time on the hard difficulty, I want 100% trophies on this one! I'm not going to spoil the experience, but it gives background on so many "characters" from the Batman franchise and you get to experience being Batman with a great slew of weaponry. There is also great download content for the game, especially for us PS3ers-being able to play as the Joker. The challenges that can be unlocked during game play also give an added bonus.
I definitely think this game will be game of the year and would rate it a 9 out of 10, only because I believe there is always room for improvement. This is a must buy. Go get it now!
This is a short article I ran across about a possible sequel?!
